The Real Skinny

Alright, now that the self-aggrandizement and written puffery is over. Here’s the deal…

If you didn’t figure it out from my maiden voyage post (the first one…), I’m the author of the old blog Brutal as well as the author of the soon-to-be-self-published (ha!) book, On Tokyo Time, which is all about my love affair with everything that is Japan and Japanese culture.

Am I still arrogant…eh, not as much as before although my tolerance for bullshit is at an all-time low. I cannot promise that these writings won’t be vicious rants but they probably won’t be. Much.

My current life, quite different than the previous one, is filled with little joys and larger bittersweet memories, hence “setsunasa” which is actually a Japanese noun meaning a bittersweet ache, heart-aching sadness, or a tender, hollow longing. Its those bittersweet memories that in essence, haunt me on a daily basis.

The other shoe that drops is that I’m getting older and parts of me either have been breaking down quietly over the past 20 years or been falling apart just recently. Will I tell you about those? Maybe. But doing a excruciatingly detailed life-therapy series is kind of not my thing.
